RSF Drone Strikes Disrupt Power Supply in Northern Sudan’s Atbara

Drones, reportedly launched by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), targeted a fuel depot and a power generation station in Atbara, located in Sudan’s northern River Nile state, on Monday. The attacks resulted in extensive power outages in the region.

For several days, the RSF has been striking key civilian and military sites across Northern and River Nile states, causing significant damage. Among the affected sites is the Merowe Dam, which has led to power shortages across multiple states.

The increase in drone strikes follows threats made by RSF deputy commander Abdel Rahim Daglo, who vowed to invade both Northern and River Nile states.

Eyewitnesses reported that drones hit petroleum storage sites west of Atbara’s industrial area, marking the second such attack in less than a week. One warehouse was destroyed in the strike. At the same time, another drone strike targeted Atbara’s electricity infrastructure.

Activists shared images on social media showing smoke rising from the fuel depot and the Al-Mogran electricity substation.

In response, the Media Coordination Council of the Sudan Electricity Company confirmed that drones attacked the Atbara station on Monday. The statement highlighted that the attack damaged transformers supplying electricity to both River Nile and Red Sea states, cutting power to these regions.

The Council added that Civil Defence forces were working to extinguish the fire caused by the attacks, and a technical assessment would be conducted to determine the extent of the damage before repairs begin.
