A Russian drone strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa late on April 13 injured at least five people and caused major damage to civilian infrastructure, local officials reported.
According to regional governor Oleh Kiper, the victims suffered shrapnel wounds and burns. “Our doctors are providing them with all necessary medical assistance,” Kiper said in a statement just before midnight. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly after the attack.
The drone strike sparked fires and damaged key sites, including a major roadway, a car repair shop, and several civilian vehicles.
Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said the attack also hit a medical facility, damaging its roof, windows, and an operating room. Fortunately, no patients were injured in the strike.
This latest attack comes as the United States continues efforts to broker a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. While Ukraine agreed to a full 30-day ceasefire one month ago, Russia has rejected the proposal and continues its military assaults.
Over the past week, Russia has intensified its attacks. On April 13, a missile strike on Sumy killed 34 people. Drone attacks in Mykolaiv left 10 injured and damaged residential buildings. Earlier, on April 6, a missile hit Kyiv, killing one person and injuring three others. That attack also caused fires and destroyed civilian infrastructure.
The ongoing strikes have raised concerns about civilian safety and the failure of ceasefire efforts to slow the violence.
