Russia Launches Massive Drone Strike on Kharkiv, Injuring Two

by Belinda

On the night of April 8, Russia launched a large-scale drone assault on Kharkiv, causing multiple fires and injuring at least two people. Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that 15 explosions rocked the city, with waves of Shahed-type attack drones targeting civilian areas.

The attack hit a range of locations, including warehouses, industrial facilities, service stations, and civilian businesses, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Over 20 drones were used, with 17 targeting the Osnovyanskyi district. Other strikes were reported in the Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, and Industrial districts, causing significant property damage.

On the same night, Russia also launched a drone strike on Dnipro, injuring at least 14 people. Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine, has been a frequent target of Russian aerial attacks, enduring continuous missile, drone, and glide bomb strikes since the start of the full-scale war. These strikes often target densely populated civilian areas.

Earlier in the week, a similar Russian drone attack in Kharkiv resulted in four deaths and 35 injuries, including a child.

Despite a partial ceasefire on energy facilities, Russia continues to target Ukraine’s residential areas and civilian infrastructure. Kyiv has accused Moscow of violating the ceasefire, providing evidence to the U.S. of multiple violations. Moscow has also rejected multiple proposals from Washington for a 30-day ceasefire, despite Ukraine’s readiness to agree to such terms if Russia accepts.
