Norway has officially joined the international drone coalition supporting Ukraine, becoming the latest country to strengthen Kyiv’s defense efforts amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.
The announcement was made by Norway’s Defense Ministry on the social media platform X and was reported by Ukrinform. Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik signed the agreement in Brussels on Friday, April 11.
“Norway is now officially a part of the international drone coalition led by Latvia and the United Kingdom. Together we are building a strong alliance to support Ukraine,” the ministry said in its statement.
With Norway’s addition, the coalition now includes 18 countries: Latvia, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Italy, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Germany, Sweden, and Ukraine.
The coalition, launched to provide advanced drone support to Ukraine’s defense forces, focuses on enhancing tactical capabilities using drones for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
In March, the coalition agreed to allocate €20 million from a joint fund to purchase ISR drones for Ukraine’s military. These drones are critical for battlefield awareness and frontline operations.
The growing coalition reflects a broader international effort to provide Ukraine with modern military technologies, including drones that have become essential tools in the war.
