Multiple Ukrainian drones launched an attack on Moscow overnight Thursday, further escalating tensions as Kyiv seeks to bring the war closer to Russian territory. This attack came just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin showed indifference toward a proposed 30-day ceasefire, a deal being advocated by the Trump administration.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that Russian air defenses intercepted four Ukrainian drones during the night. Although debris from the drones fell in various parts of the city, no casualties have been reported. Emergency services are currently assessing any potential damage.
According to pro-government Telegram channel Mash, a multi-story residential building in a high-end district of western Moscow was among the structures damaged. Another downed drone’s wreckage reportedly landed on an apartment building, as reported by Telegram channel Baza.
In the Moscow region, Governor Andrey Vorobyov stated that air defenses successfully shot down two drones over the city of Balashikha, east of Moscow. A third drone’s wreckage landed on a high-rise under construction in a suburban area just outside the city limits.
In response to the attack, Russia’s federal aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, briefly imposed flight restrictions on Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport and the airport in Kaluga, located 200 kilometers southwest of Moscow.
This drone strike follows a major Ukrainian assault on Tuesday, which marked the largest drone attack on Russian soil to date. That attack targeted residential buildings in Moscow and surrounding areas, resulting in three deaths and 17 injuries.
