Ukraine Adopts Advanced ‘Hromylo Optic’ Drones to Strengthen Frontline Operations

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has officially adopted the domestically produced ‘Hromylo Optic’ unmanned aerial system for use in its defence forces, according to the Main Directorate for Support of the Life Cycle of Weapons and Military Equipment.

Various versions of the ‘Hromylo’ drones have already been successfully deployed in missions, destroying a large number of enemy vehicles and equipment.

To meet growing battlefield demands, the manufacturer developed larger versions of the drone featuring 10-inch frames. These models can carry explosive payloads strong enough to destroy heavily armoured tanks and fortified enemy positions.

The ‘Hromylo Optic’ drones use fibre-optic control systems and offer flexible video options, including daytime, twilight, and thermal night cameras. This technology allows for precise target identification at any time of day.

Military units are already using the ‘Hromylo Optic’ drones with confirmed reports of successful strikes against enemy tanks, armoured personnel carriers, and firing positions. The drones are seen as modern warfare tools, offering extended operational ranges and high strike accuracy.

“Since the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and adopted nearly 40 unmanned aerial systems with fibre-optic control, including about 15 in April alone,” said Valerii Churkin, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine. “Our manufacturers are responding swiftly to frontline challenges. Those who implement innovative solutions fastest gain the advantage. We must not underestimate the enemy’s technological advances. We have to stay ahead.”
