Apollo and Moonrock Launch Major Drone and eVTOL Insurance Facility

by Belinda

Apollo, a leading technology-driven insurance platform, has partnered with Moonrock, a managing general agent specializing in drone insurance, to launch a groundbreaking insurance facility tailored to meet the growing risks in the drone, eVTOL, and aviation innovation sectors.

The newly announced facility offers liability coverage of up to $100 million and property damage coverage of up to $22.5 million. It aims to address the evolving needs of advanced air mobility operators, from single drone users to companies managing large fleets of unmanned or electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Apollo leads the capacity for the initiative, joined by a coalition of market participants including AEGIS London, AXIS, Beazley, Helvetia, IQUW, and others. Underwriting and distribution will be handled by Moonrock through its established broker network.

“This is a significant step forward for the insurance industry and the rapidly advancing world of air mobility,” said Martin Jackson, Class Leader for Aviation at Apollo. “There has been a clear gap in the market for higher-limit, tailored coverage for complex drone operations and innovative eVTOL technologies. We’re proud to partner with Moonrock and our fellow insurers to offer this solution.”

Simon Ritterband, Founder and Managing Director of Moonrock, described the initiative as a “leap forward” for drone insurance. “Many advanced drone operations have struggled to secure adequate coverage—especially those involving high-value equipment or experimental use cases,” he said. “With this facility, we’re finally able to support those projects comprehensively.”

Ritterband added that the facility is especially timely as the drone industry expands into new frontiers, including passenger drone services. “eVTOL is a revolutionary field that’s ready to scale. This new insurance solution ensures we’re not just reacting to innovation—we’re prepared to support and protect it.”

The partnership reflects broader industry momentum toward safer, better-supported air mobility infrastructure. As drone and eVTOL technologies mature, operators increasingly require insurance solutions that can keep pace with regulatory demands, technological complexity, and operational scale.

With the new facility, Apollo and Moonrock position themselves as key players in enabling the future of unmanned and low-emission aviation, giving innovators and operators the confidence to move forward.
