Islamic Jihad Claims Seizure of Israeli Drone Over Khan Younis

by Belinda

The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, announced Tuesday evening that it had captured an Israeli surveillance drone flying over Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

In a post shared on Telegram, the group stated: “We have taken control of a Zionist reconnaissance drone of the type Matrice 350 RTK while it was conducting multiple intelligence missions in the airspace of Khan Younis.”

The group did not release additional details about the capture. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the claim.

The incident comes as fighting in Gaza intensifies. Israel resumed its military offensive in the territory on March 18, ending a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that had been in place since January 19.

Since October 2023, more than 51,200 Palestinians—many of them women and children—have been killed in Gaza, according to local health authorities.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the conflict in Gaza.

Israel is also currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the enclave.
