Ukraine’s Alligator-9: A New Multi-Role USV with Drone Swarms and Laser Defense

by Belinda

Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Force has revealed a new uncrewed surface vehicle (USV), the “Alligator-9,” designed for multiple roles, including launching drone swarms and firing laser beams.

The Alligator-9 is a versatile naval system that can be configured in three ways. It can launch six to ten Alligator-5 ToD (torpedo drones) to target enemy vessels, or carry three to five Alligator-5 EW drones for electronic warfare, reconnaissance, mine clearing, and navigation support.

In addition to drones, the USV is equipped with the Tryzub laser system, which is capable of neutralizing various aerial threats, according to the Ukrainian military news outlet, Militarnyi.

Although its exact dimensions, speed, and range have not been disclosed, the Alligator-9 is described as a modular platform, adaptable to a variety of mission requirements.

Kyiv first introduced the Tryzub laser capability in December 2024, noting that it was already in use on the battlefield. The laser mounted on the Alligator-9 is reportedly effective at destroying attack drones, bombs, and cruise and ballistic missiles from up to 3,000 meters (9,842 feet). It can also target aircraft and reconnaissance drones at a distance of up to 5,000 meters (16,404 feet).

Furthermore, the USV can use the laser to disrupt or disable enemy airborne targets at ranges of up to 10,000 meters (32,808 feet).
