Nearthlab Partners with SoftBank to Expand AI Drone Technology in Japan

Nearthlab, a global leader in drone AI technology, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Japan’s SoftBank, marking a significant step in Nearthlab’s expansion into Japan’s cutting-edge drone market.

Under this new partnership, Nearthlab and SoftBank will collaborate to accelerate the deployment of AiDEN, Nearthlab’s proprietary AI-powered drone, alongside its automated drone station. The goal is to boost adoption of the technology across key industries in Japan and significantly expand Nearthlab’s presence in one of the world’s leading robotics ecosystems.

The two companies have a history of collaboration dating back to 2020 when Nearthlab first supplied SoftBank with drone inspection solutions. Their partnership has only grown stronger since, with the companies co-exhibiting AiDEN at Japan Drone, the nation’s largest drone exhibition, in 2024, where it captured significant attention from industry leaders.

After the MOU signing, Nearthlab conducted a live demonstration in Chiba for SoftBank and its partners. The demonstration went beyond a simple flight test, simulating real-world scenarios to showcase how AiDEN and the drone station work together to deliver hands-free, high-precision automation. The demonstration received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

SoftBank has been increasing its global AI investments, most notably leading a $40 billion investment in OpenAI. Its partnership with Nearthlab fits into this broader strategy, helping it secure a strong position in the rapidly growing drone AI sector.

“This partnership is more than just a deal – it’s the result of years of trust and a shared vision,” said Jay Choi, CEO of Nearthlab. “Teaming up with SoftBank in Japan gives us a powerful platform for growth, and we see this as a key milestone in our journey.”
