Ukrainian defense technology company Frontline has entered into a memorandum of cooperation with Germany’s Quantum-Systems, focusing on joint production, research, and the integration of advanced defense technologies. The agreement, which was announced in a press release by Frontline, outlines plans for collaboration on technological development, joint R&D projects, and the incorporation of Ukrainian innovations into the broader European defense sector.
A major aspect of the deal centers on expanding drone production in Ukraine and localizing key components across Europe. The collaboration will also focus on implementing advanced control systems and integrating Frontline’s technologies into Quantum-Systems’ unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), including the electric Vecto (eVTOL), Twister UAVs, and the Drone Port—a modular infrastructure system designed for real-time autonomous aerial reconnaissance.
Frontline, established in 2023, specializes in aerial reconnaissance platforms like the Zoom and Linza drones, as well as combat robotic systems such as the Burya turret for the 40 mm Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher. The company’s platforms utilize proprietary communication networks and visual navigation tools that are independent of GPS, enhancing their capabilities in complex environments.
The memorandum was signed in the presence of Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, and representatives of the German Embassy. Quantum-Systems’ co-CEO Sven Kruck and Head of the Ukrainian office Oleksandr Berezhnyi signed the agreement, while Frontline was represented by CEO Yevhen Tretiak and Technical Director Pavlo Kosolapkin.
Frontline was founded by four Ukrainians in August 2023. The company’s founders have a history of involvement in defense innovation since 2014, with several of their systems already deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. One of their key products, the Burya turret, has been integrated with the TerMIT unmanned ground vehicle developed by Ukrainian firm Tencore.
Quantum-Systems, established in 2015, is a German defense tech company known for its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAVs. The company integrates artificial intelligence, edge computing, and autonomous analytics to deliver real-time aerial intelligence. Quantum-Systems has a global presence, with operations in the U.S., Australia, Ukraine, and Romania, and its systems support situational awareness in defense, security, and critical infrastructure protection.
