UK, Germany, and Norway Boost Ukraine with Massive Drone and Defense Aid

The United Kingdom, Germany, and Norway have pledged major military aid to Ukraine, including funding for hundreds of thousands of drones, Bloomberg reported.

The announcement comes as former U.S. President Donald Trump continues to push for Ukraine and Russia to begin peace talks. Trump’s position has raised concerns in Europe, where leaders remain focused on supporting Kyiv in its defense against the ongoing Russian invasion.

Britain and Norway unveiled a joint $580 million aid package, drawn from existing funds, according to the UK Ministry of Defense. The package will ensure the fast delivery of first-person view (FPV) drones, radar systems, and anti-tank mines. The British MoD said that both UK and Ukrainian suppliers will provide the drones, which are currently responsible for an estimated 60–70% of damage to Russian military equipment on the battlefield.

The package also includes funding for vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.

Separately, Germany announced its own significant contribution. Acting Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Berlin would provide Ukraine with 300 surveillance drones, four IRIS-T air defense systems with 300 missiles, 30 Patriot missiles, tanks, and large quantities of ammunition. This support will be financed through an additional €11 billion ($12.4 billion) defense budget that Germany has allocated through 2029.

In a related development, UK Defense Secretary John Healey convened the latest meeting of the “coalition of the willing”—a group of European NATO and non-NATO countries prepared to send forces to Ukraine after any peace deal, to guard against future Russian threats.

Healey described the coalition’s planning as “well developed.” However, Bloomberg reported that the effort may be at risk of stalling due to the United States’ reluctance to commit to security guarantees for such a force.
